If you are pondering on starting your own business, bear in mind that your aim should be to build a profitable and scalable business that is worth a tremendous amount of money.

But, most often when we are beginning with the business, we make the business all about us as the founders or owners. We want to do the selling, we perform the order fulfilment and create a situation where customers only trust us with their orders. This is not healthy for your business. Why? You will never be able to leave the business or more importantly you will never be able to sell the business someday. This does not mean that you should sell it once it is running, but rather it is questioning whether your business will be worth much to someone else should you want to sell it. If you don’t set up your business processes correctly, your business will not be worth much since it will be dependent on you as a person, and therefore nobody else will be able to manage or own it.

So to begin – think deeply about your products, your sales process and the order fulfilment. Does this dependent entirely on you? If so, spend some time defining how the process will work without your involvement. You can define these as processes or Standard Operating Procedures. When you have done this, you can put plans or measures in place to ensure that your team are following these guidelines. If they are and your business is surviving, you have set up a truly scalable business. The next step would be to think about how to expand the business and make it extremely profitable.

Remember these valuable points when you begin your new business.
